One of the major highlights of the new South Korean Phoenix bullion series is the production of a new latent security image. Again featured on the obverse of the bullion medals, this year’s new security image offers changing visuals based on the angle the medal is held at. The security image changes between “Bong” and “Hwang,” the Korean language words for the mythical phoenix. Unlike previous latent security images, these South Korean Phoenix Medals feature the security element physically engraved onto the surface of the specimen.
All of the 2020 1 oz South Korean Gold Phoenix Medals in this product listing are available in Brilliant Uncirculated condition. The gold bullion medals in this series are available individually packaged inside of protective plastic capsules.
On the obverse of the 2020 South Korean Gold Phoenix Medals is a depiction of the Phoenix in flight over the nation. The elegant bird is captured mid-flight with its wings swooping around the design field as the thick plumage of its tail swirls beneath its figure. There is a burst of flame on the left side of the design field just above the latent security image in the lower-left field that is shaped like a slice out of a pie.
The reverse side of 2020 1 oz South Korean Gold Phoenix Medals comes with a design inspired by the presidential seal for the Republic of Korea. The intricate design shown here has stylized wings swooping beneath the figure of two Phoenixes in side-profile relief facing inward toward each other. The Taeguk, the national emblem of the Republic of Korea, is shown in between the two birds with a third Phoenix shown above the seal.
